Rally Tasmania - Day Three

Eli Evans and Glen Weston showed the winning potential of the Honda Civic Type R, winning three stages and placing second in another three on the final day of Rally Tasmania.

On a cooler day, which eased the tyre problems from Day Two, Evans and Weston were able to attack each stage and challenge for the lead.

The final two stages were run through the streets of Burnie, where the Civic Type R with its distinctive V-TEC scream, instantly became the crowd favourite.

Eli’s hopes for victory were dashed on his second run through Burnie, when the gear lever broke within sight of the finish line.

“The car’s great, I’ve just been let down all weekend by the tyres,” Eli said.

“I couldn’t actually enjoy the car and how fast it could go.

“I said to Glen on the way to the last two stages, I don’t want the weekend to be over, I just want to keep racing it.

“Off the start line, I went to pull second gear and broke the shift mount and had to go around the stage in first gear which cost us second place for the day. I’m really gutted because it was my brother Simon that beat me.

“I’m looking forward to changing the car to gravel spec and going to Perth in a few weeks,” he said.
